How Much Indian Actress Charge Per Movie?

The Indian film industry, often referred to as Bollywood, is one of the largest and most influential entertainment industries in the world. It is well-known for its colorful and extravagant movies that often feature lavish sets, intricate dance numbers, and melodramatic storylines. One of the key components of any successful Bollywood movie is the cast, which often includes some of the most talented and beautiful actresses in the country.

But just how much do these actresses make per movie? The answer is not a straightforward one, as the fee charged by Indian actresses per movie can vary greatly depending on a number of different factors. Some of the most significant factors include the actress's popularity, demand, and the budget of the film. At the top of the Bollywood food chain are actresses like Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, and Kangana Ranaut, who are among the most sought-after and highly paid actresses in the industry. According to media reports, these actresses can reportedly command anywhere from 10 to 20 crores (approximately 1.3 to 2.6 million USD) per movie.

However, it's worth noting that these figures are often kept confidential and are not publicly disclosed, so they may not be entirely accurate or up-to-date. Additionally, some actresses may choose to take a percentage of the film's profits instead of a flat fee, which can make it difficult to estimate their earnings. For instance, Deepika Padukone, who has appeared in some of Bollywood's biggest hits, reportedly took a percentage of the profits for her role in the 2013 movie "Chennai Express," which went on to become one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of all time. Similarly, Priyanka Chopra reportedly took a percentage of the profits for her role in the 2019 movie "The Sky is Pink," which was a critical and commercial success.

Shraddha KapoorINR 5-7 Crore
Anushka SharmaINR 5-7 Crore
Sonam Kapoor AhujaINR 4-6 Crore
Kriti SanonINR 3-5 Crore

The amount that actresses charge per movie can also vary depending on the type of role they are playing. For example, a lead actress who is playing the female lead in a big-budget action film may command a higher fee than an actress who is playing a supporting role in a smaller independent film. Another factor that can impact an actress's fee is the language in which the movie is being made. Bollywood movies are typically made in Hindi, but there are also many movies made in other Indian languages like Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam. Actresses who are popular in multiple languages may be able to charge more per movie than those who are only popular in one language.

It's also worth noting that the fee charged by actresses is just one part of their overall compensation package. Many actresses also receive additional perks and benefits, such as travel allowances, luxury accommodation, and access to high-end wardrobes and jewelry. These perks can be particularly important for actresses who are just starting out in the industry and may not be able to command as high a fee as more established actresses.

In recent years, there has been a growing movement in Bollywood to address the gender pay gap and ensure that actresses are paid fairly for their work. In 2018, the actress Swara Bhasker spoke out about the issue, revealing that she had been paid significantly less than her male co-stars for a movie she had appeared in.

Her comments sparked a larger conversation about the issue, and many other actresses came forward with similar stories. Since then, there have been some positive changes in the industry. For example, the actress Taapsee Pannu has said that she now insists on being paid the same as her male co-stars for any movie she appears in. Similarly, the actress Anushka Sharma has said that she negotiates her fee based on the value that she brings to the project, rather than simply accepting a flat fee.
